K-Team, a Swiss robotics company, has developed a robotic camel jockey, after winning a contract from Qatar.
Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani has announced the replacement of all child jockeys with robots, with up to two thousand units to soon be in service. “The ideal camel jockey is the size and weight of a starving 4-year-old boy. … Every robot camel jockey bopping along on its improbable mount means one Sudanese boy freed from slavery and sent home.”
These robots run Linux on a 400MHz CPU. Wired has an article and National Geographic, a good picture.
