VMWare and Mozilla have teamed to produce “The Browser Appliance” – Firefox 1.5 running on Ubuntu Linux. A virtual machine download which runs on VMWare’s free VMWare Player.
<p>This is an excellent development. VMWare effectively isolates any attacks even if Ubuntu and/or Firefox have an unpatched security vulnerability. This may be the first mass-market success for the resurgent virtualization industry.</p>
<p>I do hope they have both browser and OS configured for automatic security updates anyway.
