So maybe you’ve allowed yum to update your kernel on Fedora Core (3 at least) and now your machine doens’t boot. It can’t find the root volume or something.
<p>The trouble is a bug in the mkinitrd package. This has been fixed, but the new kernels came out before mkinitrd, and a new initrd is built when you install a kernel.</p>
<p>Either remove the kernel package and reinstall it (after yum has installed the new mkinitrd, of course) or just rebuild the initrd by hand.</p>
<p>That’s easy. What’s bad is there doesn’t appear to be a good communications channel to let people know about this.
